How It Started
After attending a 2002 symposium on omega-3 research by Dr. Bruce Holub, NOW Foods founder Elwood Richard launched an initiative to promote natural approaches to health. Partnering with Citizens for Health and the NOW Foods Advocacy Team, this led to the creation of the Citizens for Health Education Foundation. Building on that foundation, Elwood established Natural Health Research as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2008, dedicated to reducing major causes of death through natural, cost-effective methods.
Elwood was truly one of a kind and his passion for natural health was palpable. Every day we strive to continue Elwood’s legacy of empowering people through our work to provide peer-reviewed evidence of natural and sustainable ways to improve their well-being.
Dr. Rick Sharpee, PhD, became the NHRI Managing Director of Business Development in 2010 and was promoted to President in 2014. Dr. Sharpee retired from his role in 2023 and Dr. Yalda Shokooh, PharmD, PhD, became the new Executive Director.
